Down Argentine Way – Enjoyable 20th Century Fox musical with Grable in the motion picture that raised her to fame falling in love with slick Argentinean horse breeder Ameche. Miranda is great in her first American movie, acting infectious Brazilian music with her own band and look out for the Nicholas Brothers, who do a dynamite forte number. Picture postcard color all the way through. Cast includes Don Ameche, Betty Grable, Carmen Miranda, Charlotte Wood, Carrol Naish, Henry Stephenson, and Leonid Kinskey. (90 minutes, 1940)

Man in The Attic – flavorful account of ill-famed Jack the Ripper, with Palance going full-blast. Remake of The Lodger. Cast list includes Jack Palance, Constance Smith, Byron Palmer, Frances Bavier, Rhys Williams, Sean McClory, Isabel Jewell, and Leslie Bradley. (82 minutes, 1954)

Philadelphia – Andrew Beckett is a gay attorney who has Aids. He is dying of the disease. He was terminated from the traditional law firm he worked for because there was worry of contracting the ailment from him. As he battles to live on, he chooses to sue the law firm, to help further the cause of other Aids victims. His originally homophobic attorney, fights through his prejudice to fight for this cause.

Afurika Monogatari – Guide Sayer crashes his jet in wilds of Africa and comes upon a game preserve. Even old Jimmy is monotonous. The movie was filmed in Kenya. Cast includes James Stewart, Philip Sayer, Eleanora Vallone, and Heekura Simba. (120 minutes, 1981)

Vertical Limit – Peter Garett, an ex mountain climber who gave the sport up after his father died disastrously while climbing, discovers himself in a problematical state of affairs. His sister and climbing partner have been trapped in a deep crevasse while trying to climb the famous K2 peak. He is one of the only people competent of even attempting a near impossible rescue. Time is of the essence, as the trapped climbers will soon freeze to death.

Happy Gilmore – Hockey player Happy Gilmore finds his slap shot power translates into 400 yard plus drives in golf. Needing money to help his grandma save her house, he is going to try pro golf. His putting is as horrific as his driving is good, so he has a lot to learn. Overcoming all odds, Happy wins the tour championship and now can save grandma’s house.
